Dates: Thursday 10th November to Saturday 12th November 2016. Meet at Berwick-Upon-Tweed train station at 5.45pm
Lumen teamed up with the Royal Amateur Expedition Society offering a unique opportunity to experience and photograph the night sky at Duddo Farm in the Scottish Borders.
Itinerary
We met at Berwick-upon-tweed train station at 5.45pm on Thursday 10th November and were driven to Duddo Farm, where we set up camp.
Thursday Night
Photogram workshop with Melanie King
Melanie ran a workshop in making photograms using torch light.
Midnight walk to the Stone Circle with Anna Dakin
We drove from the campsite to the Duddo Stone Circle “car park” and walk for 1 mile to the site.
Friday Day
Trip to the Roughting Linn “cup and ring marks” and waterfall
We drove from the campsite to Roughting Linn where we can stay for some time to explore and make work. A bronze aged rock is adorned with mysterious “cup and ring marks”, and a waterfall riddled with stories about witchcraft is a short walk away.
Friday Night
Guided night walk on the Cheviot Hills
Anna Dakin led a walk up the Cheviot Hills at night. This walk will be fairly challenging, and requires a medium level of fitness.
Resources
The campsite is located near a large river and smaller stream; there were opportunities to make work with water.
- BBQ hut & fire lighting. The campsite is on private land where lighting fires is allowed. There was a BBQ hut for cooking.
- Milky Way view when skies are clear; Northumberland is one of the darkest counties in the UK. There is very good starlight visibility on clear nights.
- Showers, cooking facilities & power sockets located in the main house a short drive from the campsite. There are spare beds too if it does get too cold to sleep in tents.
- Woodland, mud, rocks, river water, twigs, ect. Lots of raw materials to experiment with.
